Compositions
These works are graphic musical scores produced from my investigations of writing systems and their rhythm, repetition, and intensity. As I created these, I heard the patterns and textures of music. The work wove back and forth in front of me, from notation to graphics, and from work that could be read to work that could be seen, weaving back and forth across a dividing line which itself seemed to be very arbitrary.
These are unique works (edition size of 1). All are gold toned gelatin silver prints made by traditional photochemical processes, from in-camera negatives and traditional photo sensitive paper and chemicals. The figures, patterns, and markings are made by manipulating traditional photographic chemicals, in the darkroom, and using them in non-traditional ways. The materials in the final works are: gelatin silver, gold chloride, fabric, handmade watercolor paper.
